How Hungry Are You?
I ask myself that question every year when we take our annual family vacation to Myrtle Beach – the All-You-Can-Eat capital of the world! It seems like every restaurant in the area offers some kind of buffet special - giving you the chance to fill up on your choice of a variety of culinary delights (personal favorites are Captain Georges, Angelos Italian Buffet and of course, Mammy's Kitchen!).
There's so much food to choose from, the question becomes not "what do you have to offer", but rather "HOW MUCH DO I WANT TO EAT?"
I recently came to the realization that in many ways, God is like an All-You-Can-Eat buffet [stick with me here]. He is infinite and omnipresent – meaning He is present everywhere at all times. There is no place where you can go and be away from God’s Presence. As King David once said:
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” Psalm 139:7
We all know that God is everywhere - we learned that when we were little kids. But despite His BEING everywhere, for some reason it isn't often that we look for Him in most places.
We may glance at Him in the morning before we leave the house and we may look in His direction before we eat or before we sleep. But God isn't limited to just those times and places. God is like the buffet – He’s as big as you want Him to be. He will fill your plate as often as you bring it to Him. Come once, eat once. Come more, eat more.
So back to my original question…HOW HUNGRY ARE YOU?
God is ready to fill whatever size plate you bring. Open your heart/life to Him a little and He fills a little; open a lot and He fills a lot. He is as big as you want Him to be. He - like the buffet - is never ending and you can have as much or as little of Him as you want.
It's your choice. So how much do you want today? Just a little? Just a few minutes in the morning and a few at night? Or are you hungry for more? Do you want Him at work? Do you want Him in your marriage? Do you hunger for Him to be part of your evening activities or weekend plans? The choice is yours.
[Jesus]: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6
Ask yourself: what one thing can you do TODAY to get more God in your day/life?
